Saturday. Sábado. Samedi. Samstag. Zaterdag. |
| Once again, call it The Night that Programming Forgot. The CW doesn't even participate. NBC and CBS use two hours to encore (that's repeat, kids) dramas from previous weeks, while each screening a newsmagazine. ABC starts with college football and should switch over to movies later in the season. Fox goes into its second decade of America's Most Wanted and one year shy of two decades of Cops (since they double run every week, you could argue that it's actually been longer).
Saturday is the exact same wasteland as it was last year and historically, it hasn't always been that way. Fall 1998 was the last time it was programmed as any other night of the week. The night has been home to some serious programming. CBS Saturday 1973: All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, Carol Burnett Show. Why wouldn't you want to stay home? Of course, there were only three (or so) channels in most markets and no cable.
Instead of giving up, why not try something new and experimental? No, I'm not telling you what I think here. If you want my Saturday night ideas, hire me. |
