Friday. Viernes. Vendredi. Freitag. Vrijdag.
We've come a long way since the "Who Shot J.R.?" episode of Dallas aired on a Friday night in 1980 and drew an estimated 83 million viewers. All five networks combined on Friday, September 14, 2007 drew approximately 22 million viewers. It's a very different world.

ABC moves the venerable 20/20 to start the night of - surprise - female skewed programming. The new Women's Murder Club follows 20/20 and leads into the returning Men In Trees. If ABC keeps it, expect a 27-episode season from Trees since ABC held back a handful from the end of the last season.

It's CBS' night to lose. Ghost Whisperer has a solid following to start the night, hammocking the new Moonlight between it and Numb3rs.

The CW wrestles with Friday Night Smackdown. It's a show that really no longer fits on the network.

Fox's music-themed Friday is off to a rough start with the first Nashville airing being seen by nearly no one. It could be attributed to the fact that no one knows the season (sort of) started. American Band doesn't kickoff until the middle of the MLB Playoffs, so be prepared to see endless promos for that. Fox would be quite happy if it delivers half the American Idol audience. If it sticks, I don't think Friday is the night for it.

NBC leads off with the second Deal or No Deal installment of the week. Friday Night Lights moves to its namesake's night and Las Vegas loses a Caan, but gains a Selleck (and starts an hour later). The best Friday NBC has had in some time.

The winner of the night seems to be Ghost Whisperer. As said, it's CBS' night to lose, but this year we have a more competitive Friday.
