"Hey, ABC & NBC, thanks for American Idol." Both passed before Fox picked it up. |
| My heading aside, you can no longer sum up Fox with the two words american and idol. They really are more than that now and thankfully, nowhere on the sked do you see shows like When Lemurs Attack.
Looking Back
Not much left from Fall 2002. The Simpsons and 24, Cops and America's Most Wanted. None of the new '02 entries made it out of the first season, although Firefly became a movie. 2003 gave Fox a few keepers (Arrested Development, The O.C.) and unfortunately the huge mistake of Skin, which only aired three times. No one wanted to spend A Minute with Stan Hooper. 2004 wasn't much kinder with only House graduating from a Fall Class of nine. Last year was much better for Fox. Although they got the early kill award for ending the misery of Head Class after only two airings, half of the eight that debuted are still on today's sked.
2006-07
With five new shows, some definite hits (House, Bones, Prison Break) and American Idol and 24 awaiting their January launches, Fox is poised very well for 2006-07. Unless something goes horribly awry, expect American Idol as the #1 overall show, with an 5% increase and watch 24 increase for a second straight season, also in the neighborhood of 5-7%. |
