my take on Friday
ABC Friday begins with an encore play of America's Funniest Home Videos followed by the new Men In Trees at 9. I'm concerned that Men In Trees won't find an audience in this slot. The venerable 20/20 ends the night.

CBS Friday has the distinction of being the only 3-hour night on any network to return unchanged from last season. The returnees are Ghost Whisperer, Close to Home and Numb3rs. (To be fair, Close to Home didn't begin last season on Friday, but moved after its fifth week.) They'll probably take the night.

The CW Friday is exactly the same as UPN Friday: Smackdown. 'Nuff said.

Fox Friday, besides being alliterative, is an interesting exercise in programming. It's clearly going after a much older demo than Fox ever goes for with Nanny 911 at 8 and the sometimes frightening Trading Spouses at 9. Either of these are movable or replaceable.

NBC Friday is being programmed like NBC actually gives a damn this year. The many-times-moved Crossing Jordan begins the night and should get some of its best ratings. Las Vegas continues its reign as the guilty pleasure of the night at 9. Law & Order (the mothership) moves to Friday after 14 years on Wednesday. Should be interesting to see if fans will follow.

My finishes its stripped run of Desire and Fashion House for the week.

Friday's Top 3 are Law & Order, Numb3rs and Ghost Whisperer.
