ABC's in a whole different position than it was at this time last year. They had the hottest new shows ("Desperate Housewives," "Lost") and vaulted themselves back into contention. They unveil five new shows (two comedies, three dramas) this season and add a drama and comedy in early 2006. (Including the '06 entries, ABC has a part (financial) interest in two shows and a whole interest in one.)

I wouldn't make long-term plans for three of the five new entries. "Commander In Chief" has potential and "Freddie" was at least get folks about to watch "Lost."

The Alphabet net has a strong Sunday, football Monday, just a fair sked for the rest of the week. I expect them to make incremental gains overall unless "CIC" takes off.
