It's the first time Fox is launching a season without 24 waiting in the January wings. It's also the first time Fox is launching a season with a Simon Cowell-less American Idol. Fox's fortunes ride on Idol. Period. Rupert's net has only three new fall entries, one of which I really like and the other two I'm hopeful, yet indifferent.

Thursday, Saturday and Sunday return untouched from last year, with an all-new Wednesday lineup bowing in November (due to the MLB Postseason) as well as a surprising Friday lineup.

Of Fox's new shows from last season, only three return. Of all of Fox's programming from last year, five shows have been kicked to the curb.

Fox needs Lone Star to gather some eyeballs along with either one of the two new sitcoms, or, combined with who-knows-what-happens with Idol, they could be looking at losing their first place crown.
