Based on the legendary novel by Daniel Defoe, this is the tale of Robinson Crusoe. A young man leaves his true love to embark on an adventure -- only to end up shipwrecked on a remote tropical island for 28 years, completely detached from the life he once knew. His desire to return to his wife and his strong and unlikely friendship with Friday are the only things that keep him sane. While stranded, Crusoe encounters enemies and braves the elements. Equal parts "MacGyver," "Castaway" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," this series is an inspirational tale of survival rife with action and comedy.
stars Sean Bean (National Treasure), Sam Neill (The Tudors), Anna Walton (Hellboy 2), Joss Ackland (Mighty Ducks), Philip Winchester (Flyboys)
producers Stephen Gallagher, Genevieve Hofmeyr, Justin Bodle, Michael Prupas

my take
Lost minus Freaky Weird Stuff with a splash of 17th century MacGyver. The clips look beautiful, but beautiful can mean expensive. Friday night isn't really the place to launch an expensive series, even if the cost is spread among multiple production companies. That aside, it's unclear exactly how they will show the marooned Crusoe as well as his family. Flashbacks? Or will it simply be two essentially seperate shows? I'm a bit surprised that this classic story hasn't really been serialized before. With the book as their guide, I expect "Crusoe" to have its voice immediately. I expect it to be well-acted and very well-shot. This one comes down to slot and if folks want to watch a drama set in the late 1600s. I would have felt better about its chances if NBC held this for Sunday after football.
