Secret Millionaire is a dramatic unscripted series that takes viewers out of their comfort zones and into the heart of America's social issues.

Each week, one of the wealthiest Americans, worth millions of dollars, will go undercover into one of the most impoverished and dangerous towns in America. Their job is to spend one week canvassing the town - meeting as many people as possible - some of whom will touch the millionaire with their dedication to helping others while others will have incredible stories of trying to overcome tremendous odds. On the final day, the Secret Millionaire meets with the chosen recipients and reveals his/her true identity and intentions - to give them a sum of money that is going to change their lives forever.

my take
Fox Reality meets NBC scripted? Seriously, this is literally a reality version of the NBC Midseason entry The Philanthropist. Folks will think they've already seen it. As far as unscripted (read: not-so-subtly manipulated and edited) and televised charity goes, the track record is mixed. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has done well for ABC, but won't work on Thursday. Amy Grant tried something similar a few years back with Three Wishes on NBC and it fizzled. It's supposedly debuting in December, a time when most shows will be in repeats, so, it's a maybe...but as I have said throughout this preview: unscripted and/or reality programming is much more cheaply produced and as a result has a lower bar to cross to be considered a hit by the network. I'm not bullish on this one at all.
