A contemporary spin on an old story. Two decades after his parents died in the African jungle, leaving him to be raised by apes, Tarzan's billionaire uncle has him captured and brought back to New York City. Escaping captivity, he meets a police detective named Jane who is already romantically involved with another man, leaving her to choose between civilization and humanity. [The WB link]

opinions
Something not exactly right when a month before the debut, cast members are being added. Even if that cast member is Xena herself. This screams "retool" and makes me less inclined to take a look. Do I need to mention the "Beauty and the Beast" angle?
Think "Beauty and the Beast," except the beast is really pretty and has great abs. Calvin Klein model Fimmel is the jungle-raised man, with Pileggi, leaving ambiguity at his old job, is the mean old uncle. NYPD detective Jane is indebted to Tarzan after he saves her life, and thus begins a crusade to see why he's being kept under lock and key -- a crusade that involves lots of longing gazes and romantic tension.
my thoughts on "Tarzan"
Limping, at best. It's got a bad slot, maximized when "The Sopranos" returns. I don't expect it to survive...and there's nowhere else on the The WB sked for it.
