What I Say |
| Another show that goes back to the '60s, although this has the distinction of using actual "American Bandstand" footage (shouldn't this be on ABC?) to interweave with the story. There are many recognizable faces even if the only one that everyone will know is Joey, now Joseph, Lawrence. Whoa. Isn't he a fin away from a Ted McGinley-level Jump The Shark rating? That's the only bad-like news I can find. |
My Analysis & Prediction |
| Full season; possible slot move (except there's no where to go). NBC's been reasonably patient with popular, but non-performing new drama hours in the past years ("Providence," "Ed") to allow them to find an audience. There's no competition for this genre, although "The Simpsons" will be formidable. Think "7th Heaven" in the '60s with rock 'n' roll. |
What They Say |
| Set to the soundtrack of the '60s, a Philadelphia family moves toward the cultural upheaval in the years ahead. The Pryors' teen daughter Meg tries to shed her "good girl" image by hanging with her worldly friend Roxanne and pursuing a dream of being an "American Bandstand" dancer. Meg's emerging personality, and the changes her mother's going through, don't sit well with Meg's father. |
| This dramatic series, set in the early 1960s, focuses on 15-year-old Meg Pryor (Brittany Snow) and her best friend Roxanne (Vanessa Lengies). When they achieve their dream of becoming dancers on "American Bandstand", the stable Pryor clan deals with the repercussions. |

| From the thrill of dancing to the new Ronettes song to the life-changing assassination of a beloved President, American Dreams follows one family's journey through the joys and pains of America in the '60s and early '70s. At the epicenter of these earth-shattering times is Meg Pryor, a style-conscious 15-year-old whose life revolves around the popular dance show, "American Bandstand". While Meg's younger brother and sister are concerned with simple pursuits, her older brother, JJ, is fighting to follow his dreams instead of his father's. And unbeknownst to the kids, their parents are struggling to define their own evolving relationship as partners, parents and people. Meanwhile, the world swirls around them - a vibrant combination of rock and roll, equal rights and soon, war. How will the changing times change this American family?
