It's my 11th annual Fall TV Preview. Thanks for dropping by. As always, I concentrate on the five broadcast networks and evaluate each new show, each network's slate and each night's competition based on concepts, timeslots and competition by only viewing clips. Didn't watch a single pilot.

Unlike always, I'm putting out a gentle call to those of you in TV land. I'm looking for a gig, preferably in the writing area, but I'm open to development, reporting, or just about anything above PA that could lead to (echo effect) Staff Writer (end echo effect). (I'm also open to photographer gigs as well.) It's pretty nasty out there, but you know that. So I thought I'd ask. Onward!

This season we're treated (in some cases I mean that loosely) to 21 new shows and blissfully, none of them are reality shows. Of last year's newbies, ABC (8 new) and NBC (6 new) had 50% mortality rates, CBS (5) and Fox's (5) were 60% and The CW (3) was the highest at 66%. Ouch.

This season comes in, overall, as underwhelming. I usually get excited about a show or two back in May during the upfront. Nothing this year. As I gathered more and more information about these new shows, it was still pretty meh. Part of it is my fatigue from re-booting, re-imagining and re-blahing of everything everyone's seen already. It's considerably more prevalent in the movies, but TV is not unscathed. Of course, TV simply wants something that's new and different...but not too different.

I'm hopeful for ABC's Nashville, CBS' Partners and Vegas and Fox's The Mindy Project. Four out of 21 shows, not very good. That would get you sent down to the minors. But, this isn't Baseball, this is TV, where folks fail up all the time. I still love it, even when it pisses me off. And I'll always love when all the new shows hit (and miss) the air around September.

Enjoy the predictions and the grids. I'm making sure my DVR is stretching.
