For years as a kid, my favorite time of the year was right around when TV Guide's jam-packed Fall Preview edition arrived. I poured over it checking out the new shows, finding out that a favorite was cancelled, etc. Ten years ago I decided since TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly put out a Fall Preview, so could I. That's why you're about to read my 10th Anniversary letterten Fall Preview.

This Preview, as in years past, sticks only to the five broadcast networks. I know there are a ton of great shows on cable (Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Dexter just to name a few), but like to keep the focus on broadcast.

Although this is coming out a bit later than I would have liked, as always, this is compiled without watching any pilots. I use releases, promo clips, my experience in watching far too many hours of television and even more hours in reading about television.

I blew it last year by predicting that Law & Order: Los Angeles would be the season's big winner. Oops. It barely made it through the entire season. Such is life. If worked for a network, I might be promoted for something like that. Last season essentially produced a whole lot of nothing. There wasn't a breakout hit and the casualty rate was very, very high. Six new sitcoms, 16 dramas and one reality show. Of those 23, only six are returning (two sitcoms and four dramas) for a second season.

We've got 27 fall premieres. The only sure thing on any sked is Fox's The X Factor. ABC's best bets are Charlie's Angels and Last Man Standing. The Eye's 2 Broke Girls gets the nod simply on timeslot alone. The Secret Circle on The CW is their best shot at a hit. NBC's biggest buzz is The Playboy Club, but nothing in their lineup seems like a best bet.

It's going to be an interesting season, with X as the only out of the box winner.

Enjoy the preview, the season and drop me a line.
